Who We Are
HorizantalTabs is a Chrome extension operated by Algomittens LLC ("we", "us", "our"). You can reach us at algomittens@gmail.com.
Single Purpose
HorizantalTabs' single purpose is to provide horizontal tab management for Google Chrome. It displays your open tabs in a scrollable horizontal strip so you can search, switch, reorder, group, and organize tabs efficiently. HorizantalTabs does not monitor your general browsing activity. It only reads tab metadata (titles, URLs, favicons) to display them in the extension popup.
1. What Data We Collect
HorizantalTabs collects only what is necessary to provide the service:
- Tab metadata: Tab titles, URLs, favicons, group assignments, and pinned/active state. This data is read via the Chrome Tabs API and used only within the extension popup to display your tabs. It is never sent to any server.
- Thumbnail cache: For Pro users, the extension captures low-resolution JPEG thumbnails of your active tab for the hover preview feature. These are stored only in the service worker's memory (never on disk, never sent to any server) and are cleared when Chrome closes.
- Saved sessions: Tab URLs and titles you choose to save as a session. Stored locally in
chrome.storage.local. - Preferences: Settings like compact mode, badge toggle, and layout preferences. Stored locally in
chrome.storage.local. - Email address (Pro users): If you upgrade to HorizantalTabs Pro, we store your email address to verify your license. Your email is stored in our database (Supabase) and is used solely for license verification.
- Subscription data: If you upgrade to a paid plan, Stripe processes your payment. We store your Stripe customer ID and subscription status — never your card number or payment details.
2. How We Use Your Data
Each type of data we collect serves a specific purpose:
- Tab metadata is used to display your open tabs in the horizontal strip, enable search, and show tab group labels and colors.
- Thumbnails are used to show a preview when you hover over a tab in the strip (Pro only).
- Saved sessions are used to let you restore a group of tabs you previously saved.
- Preferences are used to remember your layout and display settings between sessions.
- Email address is used to verify your Pro license status.
- Subscription data is used to determine whether Pro features (thumbnails, unlimited sessions) are active for your account.
3. How We Handle Your Data
We take the following measures to handle your data securely:
- Encryption in transit: All data transmitted between the extension and our servers uses HTTPS (TLS 1.2+). No user data is ever sent over unencrypted HTTP connections.
- Local-first architecture: Tab metadata, thumbnails, saved sessions, and preferences are stored entirely on your device in
chrome.storage.localand service worker memory. This data is not transmitted to our servers. - Minimal server-side data: Our servers store only license verification data (email and subscription status). Tab data and preferences stay on your device.
- Row-level security: License verification uses Supabase's row-level security to ensure users can only read their own license status.
- No analytics or tracking: HorizantalTabs does not include any analytics libraries, telemetry, tracking pixels, or fingerprinting code.
No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. While we use reasonable measures to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
4. Where Data Is Stored
- On your device: Tab metadata, thumbnails, saved sessions, preferences, and cached license status are stored locally in your browser's
chrome.storage.localand service worker memory. - Supabase (US-hosted): Email address and subscription status are stored in our Supabase-hosted PostgreSQL database.
- Stripe: Payment method details and billing history are stored by Stripe. We do not have access to your full card number.
5. Who We Share Data With
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. Data is shared only with the following service providers, solely to operate HorizantalTabs:
- Supabase — license verification and subscription management. Supabase Privacy Policy.
- Stripe — payment processing for Pro subscriptions. Stripe Privacy Policy.
No other third parties receive any data from this extension.
